A Mediterranean-Inspired Holiday Home Right On The Water’s Edge

The crisp, clean lines of the newly built Sky Garden house right on the water’s edge of Noosa was the perfect blank canvas upon which CLO Studios could impart their interior styling flair.

‘The surrounding landscape was a huge inspiration for the subtle earthy tones,’ says CLO Studios founder and creative director, Chloe Tozer. ‘We were inspired by the coastline of old-world Italy, with earthy and colourful tones blended seamlessly together.’

The designers leant on local artists to anchor the new house with a sense of the location’s history and culture.

Stanislas Piechaczek’s oversized pastel work links the indoor mood to the exterior tonal palette, while large works woven from natural fibres by artist Stacy Madden hanging in the bedroom and entry-way bring a sense of earthiness and native environment to the new space.

‘She foraged for debris from the surrounding Noosa environment to create one-off wall sculptures that flow into each space,’ says Chloe of Stacy’s practice.

The dining table custom made by local furniture designer Tyler Rhys is the centrepiece of the open plan living space, made extra special by the provenance of the timber sourced from a friend’s property.

This degree of proximity and material culture is central to the styling philosophy CLO carried throughout the design.

‘Every material is natural; the key was to make sure that the interior was an extension of nature, linens, raw timber, brass, leather, and sculptures created from branches, twigs, and cuttlefish—a collection of Noosa’s treasures, formed into art that tells a story,’ says Chloe.
